Decimals practice
Write selected tenths and hundredths below 1 as fractions in simplest form.
Write the decimal as a fraction in simplest form.
Questions use selected tenths and hundredths greater than 0 and less than 1. Enter both the numerator and denominator, then check. Some fractions need simplifying; others are already in simplest form.
Typical level: Grade 4 and beyondIn the U.S. Common Core, Grade 4 connects tenths and hundredths to fractions. This practice also asks you to simplify the fraction. Curriculum timing varies.
Example: 0.35
0.35 means 35 hundredths. The whole has 100 equal parts, and 35 of them are shaded.
0.35 = 35 over 100
Two decimal places name hundredths, so the denominator is 100. One decimal place names tenths, so the denominator is 10. Write this place-value fraction first; simplify it afterward.
The places name the size of the parts. Decimal Place Value practices telling tenths and hundredths apart.
Divide the numerator and denominator by the same common factor. For 35 over 100, both numbers divide by 5.
Simplest form is required here. 35 over 100 has the right value, but it is not yet simplified. Submit seven twentieths.
